What We Whitewash
Whitewash lets the texture and some of the color underneath show through. How much shows is decided on a test area before the full job.
-
Brick Fireplaces
Interior and patio fireplaces cleaned and whitewashed, with the firebox and hearth protected.
-
Exterior Brick
Brick homes, porches, columns and garden walls cleaned and whitewashed for a softer, lighter look.
-
Stone
Stone fireplaces and accent walls whitewashed to tone down dark or mismatched stone.
-
Wood repair
Pine paneling, shiplap and board walls whitewashed so the grain still shows.
-
Interior painting
Tongue-and-groove ceilings and beams whitewashed to lighten a room without covering the wood.
-
Painted Brick
When you want solid color instead, brick is primed and painted with a paint made for masonry.
Why Homeowners Choose D&D for Whitewashing
D&D Decorators is a locally owned painting contractor serving the Golden Isles since 1986. Whitewash is hard to undo once it soaks into brick, so every job starts with a test area you approve before we do the rest.
Cleaning, whitewashing and the painting around it are handled by the same company, so the fireplace, walls and trim are finished together.
We’re fully licensed and insured, and customers hire us for dependable scheduling, professional crews, clear communication, thorough prep and consistent, high-quality work.

Our Whitewashing Process
Every whitewashing project follows these six steps.
1. Onsite Assessment
An estimator looks at the brick, stone or wood, checks for sealers or old paint that would block the whitewash, and talks through the look you want.
2. Written Estimate and Scope
You receive a written estimate listing the surfaces, the cleaning and the finish, so you know what is included before you book.
3. Protection and Cleaning
Floors, hearths, trim and nearby surfaces are covered, and the surface is cleaned so the whitewash absorbs evenly.
4. Test Area
A small test area is whitewashed so you can see how much of the brick or wood shows through and adjust it before the full job.
5. Whitewashing
The whitewash is applied and worked into the surface to match the approved test area across the whole job.
6. Cleanup and Final Walkthrough
Coverings come off, the area is cleaned, and we review the finished surface with you.
What Professional Whitewashing Should Deliver
A Look You Approved First
A test area signed off before the full job, so there are no surprises.
Even Coverage Across the Surface
The same level of whitewash from one side to the other, with no blotchy patches.
Texture That Still Shows
Brick, mortar and wood grain visible through the finish, not buried under it.
A Protected Room
Floors, hearths and trim covered during the work and cleaned up after.
Whitewashing Questions Homeowners Commonly Ask
What's the difference between whitewashing and painting brick?
Paint covers the brick in a solid color. Whitewash is thinner and soaks in, so the brick’s texture and some of its color still show through.
Can whitewash be removed later?
Only with difficulty. Whitewash soaks into porous brick, so it should be treated as long term. That’s why every job starts with a test area.
What's the difference between whitewash and limewash?
Whitewash is usually made from diluted paint. Limewash is made from lime and wears and softens over time for a more aged look. We’ll go over which one fits your brick in the estimate.
Can I control how much of the brick shows?
Yes. The whitewash can be applied heavier or lighter, and wiped back, and we adjust it on the test area until you approve the look.
Can you whitewash a fireplace I use?
Yes. The whitewash goes on the brick face and surround. The inside of the firebox isn’t whitewashed.
Can you whitewash exterior brick?
Yes. Exterior brick is cleaned first, then whitewashed using a product made for exterior masonry.
