Matching the blue porch ceiling
Blue porch ceilings are a long Southern tradition, often called haint blue. This house already had blue porch ceilings and blue soffits where the rafters are exposed, so we painted the rest of the soffits to match. Now the underside of the roofline reads as one color all the way around.
What we did
- Cleaned every surface we were painting to remove mildew and spider webs
- Soffits: prepped as needed, caulked cracks and applied two coats of 100% acrylic satin matched to the blue porch ceilings
- Window sills: sanded smooth, caulked cracks, spot primed raw wood and painted in 100% acrylic satin to match the existing color
Window sills take more water and sun than almost any other trim on a house, so we sand them smooth and prime any bare wood before the finish coat goes on.
The result
The soffits now match the blue porch ceilings and exposed rafters, and the window sills are sealed and repainted.
