Furniture Refinishing and Painting in the Golden Isles

We sand, prime, paint and restain wood furniture, built-ins and outdoor pieces. Solid wood, sets and built-ins.

What We Refinish

D&D Decorators has been painting and finishing wood in the Golden Isles since 1986. Furniture refinishing is the same work we do on trim and cabinetry, applied to loose pieces and built-ins:

  • Dining tables and chair sets. The most common furniture project we take, and the one where batch pricing works in your favor.
  • Dressers, sideboards and case goods. Painted or restained.
  • Built-in bookcases, window seats and shelving. Attached millwork we finish in place.
  • Mantels, banisters and stair parts. Restained or painted to match new trim colors.
  • Interior doors. Often done alongside a room repaint.
  • Shutters and louvered panels. Sprayed for even coverage.
  • Porch and outdoor furniture. Benches, tables, rockers and swings, resanded and refinished.

If your project is kitchen or bath cabinetry, that is a separate service. See cabinet painting.

Refinish, Repaint, or Replace

Not every piece should be refinished, and we would rather tell you that up front than bill you for it.

Where We Work

We refinish furniture and millwork for homeowners on St. Simons Island, Sea Island, Jekyll Island, in Brunswick, including Oak Grove Island, Country Club Estates, Belle Point and the historic district off Newcastle, and in Darien.

Our Refinishing Process

1. Assessment and honest go / no-go

Photos are usually enough to start. We tell you whether refinishing is the right call before we quote it.

2. Pickup or on-site setup.

Our team cleans, sands, and repairs exterior surfaces with exceptional attention to detail, laying the groundwork for a smooth, enduring finish.

3. Sanding and prep.

Sanded to a sound surface, dents and chips filled, hardware removed and bagged.

4. Prime or seal.

Bonding primer for painted finishes, conditioner and sealer for stain.

5. Finish coats.

Sprayed or brushed, sanded between coats.

6. Cure and return.

We tell you how long before the piece goes back into daily use.

At D&D Decorators, craftsmanship isn’t just what we do – it’s what defines us. We take pride in delivering an exterior finish that is both elegant and enduring.

What Refinishing Means at D&D

We are a painting contractor, and our furniture work reflects that.

We sand the piece to a sound surface, fill minor dents and chips, prime or seal it, and apply new painted or stained topcoats. Finishes are sprayed where we can for an even result and brushed where spraying is not practical.

We do not strip antiques to bare wood for conservation, repair veneer, re-glue joints, do caning or upholstery, or apply hand-rubbed lacquer. Several shops on the island do that work well and we will point you to one.

Benefits of Furniture Refinishing

Residential wall painting

Keep the Piece You Already Own.

You keep the size, the wood and the construction, with a finish that looks new.

Eco-friendly residential painting

Match It to the Room It Is In Now.

A new color or stain lets a piece work with the room you have today instead of the one it was bought for.

Golden Isles Residential Painters

Older Furniture Is Usually Built Better.

Solid stock and real joinery are common in older pieces and rare at the price they sell for new. Refinishing replaces the finish and keeps the construction.

Licensed residential painters

Less Waste.

A piece that still has good bones stays out of the landfill.

Questions Golden Isle Homeowners Commonly Ask

No. We sand, prime, paint and restain. Pieces that need veneer work, re-gluing or joinery repair should go to a restoration shop.

For mass-market furniture, usually cheaper to buy new. Refinishing wins on solid wood, custom or oversized pieces, matched sets, built-ins that cannot be replaced, and anything you intend to keep.

We match paint colors. Stain matching across different wood species is approximate. Once your project is booked we sample on the actual piece before finishing.

Yes. Benches, tables, rockers and swings are common projects for us.

We primarily use Benjamin Moore and Sherwin-Williams for their durability and consistency. These brands offer exterior lines that perform well in humid, coastal environments.

Brunswick experiences more moisture and sunlight than many inland areas. Exterior paint plays a functional role in protecting your home’s structure. When properly applied, quality paint:

  • Shields wood and siding from water
  • Reduces fading caused by sun exposure
  • Helps control mildew
  • Supports long-term curb appeal
  • Strengthens the home’s first line of defense against coastal weather

A carefully executed paint job is more than cosmetic—it contributes to the home’s longevity.
