Front Door Painting and Staining
A front door is handled every day and seen up close by everyone who visits, so brush marks, drips, rough spots and a poor color match all show. We remove or mask the hardware, clean and sand the door, fill dents and gouges, prime bare wood or metal, and apply the finish coats by hand.
Stained wood doors can be refinished: cleaned and restained, or changed from stain to paint. If the door has been stained, we'll tell you in the estimate whether the existing finish can be recoated or needs more preparation first.
A freshly painted door has to stay open or propped while it dries between coats. We'll tell you how long that takes for your door and plan the work around your schedule.
Garage Door Painting
Garage doors are one of the largest painted surfaces on the front of a house. We paint metal, wood and composite garage doors, whether you're matching new trim, changing the house color, or refreshing a finish that has peeled or faded.
Metal doors are cleaned and any rust spots are sanded and primed before painting. Wood doors are checked for rot along the bottom panels and repaired first.

Shutter Painting
Shutters are painted in place or taken down, depending on how they're mounted and their condition. Louvered shutters take the most time, because every slat has to be coated on both edges and faces.
Wood shutters are checked for soft or split slats and rails before painting, and damaged pieces are repaired or replaced. Vinyl shutters need a paint made for vinyl.
See rotten wood repair for the carpentry side of the work.
Interior Door and Trim Painting
Interior doors, door frames and trim are usually painted as part of a room repaint, but we also paint them on their own, for example when changing stained doors to white or updating every door in the house to a new color.
Six-panel and louvered doors take more time than flat doors because every recess is cut in by hand.
See interior painting if the doors are part of a larger room project.
Door and Shutter Painting Across the Golden Isles
D&D Decorators provides door and shutter painting services from our Brunswick office throughout Glynn County and the Golden Isles, including Brunswick, St. Simons Island, Sea Island and Jekyll Island.
Coastal exteriors face conditions that can be especially demanding on painted surfaces. Sun exposure, moisture and salt air make proper preparation and product selection particularly important on doors and shutters.
Whether the work is part of a larger exterior repaint or a smaller update to your home’s entrance and architectural accents, our team can coordinate the work under one scope.

Exterior Details Deserve the Same Attention as the Rest of the House
Painting a front door or a set of shutters may be a smaller project than painting an entire home. That does not make preparation, protection or finish quality any less important.
D&D Decorators has served homeowners throughout the Golden Isles for more than four decades. Our crews handle projects ranging from individual architectural details to complete interior and exterior repaints, allowing related work to stay coordinated through one painting contractor.

One Contractor for the Entire Exterior
Painting, surface preparation and related repair work can be coordinated within the broader project scope.
When the Rest of the House Looks Good, but the Details Don't
Doors and shutters are among the first exterior surfaces to show age. Direct sun, humidity, salt air, rain and daily use can leave them looking worn before the surrounding siding does. You may not need to repaint the entire exterior to make a noticeable difference.
Faded or Chalky Color
Strong coastal sunlight can flatten rich colors and make shutters and entry doors look washed out.
Peeling or Failed Paint
Loose paint, cracking and exposed substrate are signs that repainting requires more than simply applying another coat.
An Outdated Exterior Color
Changing the front door or shutters can update the character of the home without changing the entire exterior palette.
Weathered Wood or Surface Damage
Before painting, deteriorated areas need to be identified so the new finish is going over a sound surface.
Doors and Shutters on Their Own, or With a Full Repaint
Doors and shutters are most often painted as part of a full exterior repaint. If that’s what you’re planning, see exterior painting. We also take door and shutter projects on their own.
Our Door & Shutter Painting Process
1. Walkthrough & Assessment
We inspect the doors, shutters and adjacent surfaces, discuss your desired color and determine what preparation will be required.
2. Written Scope & Estimate
You receive an estimate outlining the surfaces and work included before the project is scheduled.
Protection & Preparation
Surrounding surfaces are protected. Existing coatings are cleaned, scraped, sanded and prepared as appropriate.
4. Repairs & Primer
Minor surface defects are addressed and bare or problem areas are primed where required.
5. Finish Painting
The selected finish is applied carefully across panels, edges, louvers and detailed areas for consistent coverage.
6. Cleanup & Final Walkthrough
Protection is removed, the work area is cleaned and the completed surfaces are reviewed before closeout.

What Professional Door & Shutter Painting Should Deliver
A Smooth, Properly Prepared Surface
Loose coatings, rough areas and imperfections are addressed before finish paint goes on. The quality of the finished surface starts with the prep underneath it.
Clean Lines Around Every Detail
Glass, hardware, trim, siding and adjacent surfaces are protected so the finished door or shutter looks deliberate rather than simply “repainted.”
The Right Finish for the Surface
Wood, fiberglass, metal and previously painted surfaces do not always require the same preparation or products. We match the system to the substrate and its exposure.
A Finish That Works With the Whole Exterior
Doors and shutters should complement the siding, trim, roof and architectural style of the home. D&D can help you carry an existing palette through or make a more noticeable color change.
